"We remember and honor those we have lost to violence by continuing to fight for full equality for all."
November 20, 2012

(New York, November 20, 2012) —Today, in recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance, Lambda Legal issued the following statement by Transgender Rights Attorney Dru Levasseur:

"On the 14th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember and honor those we have lost to anti-transgender hatred and violence by continuing to fight for full equality for all transgender and gender non-conforming people.

"Transgender people are often the most vulnerable members of our community, they often bear the brunt of the harassment, discrimination, and physical violence aimed at our community as a whole. The devastating number of transgender murders worldwide is unacceptable.

"Lambda Legal continues to advocate for the rights of transgender people in every aspect of their daily lives in the hopes that the epidemic of violence against members of our community will end."

Lambda Legal continues to expand its Transgender Rights Tool Kit: A Legal Guide for Trans People and Their Advocates:  read it here. http://www.lambdalegal.org/publications/trans-toolkit, including the newest section on  "Anti-Transgender Violence."
