Washington State Supreme Court Rules Against Marriage for Same-Sex Couples

(Seattle, July 26, 2006) — The Washington State Supreme Court issued a 5–4 ruling against couples represented by Lambda Legal and the Northwest Women’s Law Center in a case seeking marriage for same-sex couples.


Two cases were decided today — Andersen v. King County in which the eight couples are represented by Lambda Legal and the Northwest Women's Law Center and Castle v. State whose 11 couples are represented by the ACLU of Washington.

Lambda Legal Asks Court to Throw Out Case Seeking to Take Away Domestic Partner Benefits of Miami University Employees

(Oxford, OH, July 14, 2006) — In papers filed today, Lambda Legal asked the Butler County Court of Common Pleas to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a legislator seeking to take away the domestic partner benefits of employees of Miami University because the legislator has no legal standing to sue.

New York State's High Court Upholds Exclusion of Same-Sex Couples from Marriage

(New York, July 6, 2006) — The New York Court of Appeals (the state’s highest court) issued a ruling upholding the state’s exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.


In the prevailing opinion, Judge Robert S. Smith nonetheless wrote, “We express our hope that the participants in the controversy over same-sex marriage will address their arguments to the Legislature.”

U.S. Court of Appeals Issues Decision in Lambda Legal's Case Charging Condoleezza Rice with HIV Discrimination: Man with HIV Must Have His Day in Court

(Washington D.C., June 27, 2006) — Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued a decision in Lambda Legal’s lawsuit on behalf of Lorenzo Taylor, a man who was denied employment as a Foreign Service Officer by the U.S. State Department because he has HIV, stating that Taylor presented “more than enough” evidence for the matter to go to trial.

Lambda Legal Delivers Thousands of Signatures Calling for Condoleezza Rice to End Government Discrimination Against People with HIV
