"'The ball is already rolling, but now it's about keeping it moving in the right direction.'

"That's what Cole Thaler, an attorney for Lambda Legal, says lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students and their allies at Auburn University need to do to get gender identity and gender expression included in the university's discrimination policy.

"An update to Auburn's discrimination policy in February was bittersweet for some students and faculty because a last-minute change omitted the two sexual classifications. The policy does, however, include a provision prohibiting discrimination and/or harassment based on sexual orientation.

"...Thaler said he enjoys speaking on college campuses because it is where 'the impact is the greatest, maybe not in the short term, but in the long term.' He says he sees changes for gay rights on college campuses having a ripple effect across the nation and helping attorneys like himself fight for equality at schools and corporations."
