Cynthia Homan of Chicago re-elected as Board Co-Chair; Charles MarLett of Dallas elected as Board Co-Chair
February 8, 2005

(New York, February 8, 2005) — Lambda Legal’s Board of Directors re-elected and elected officers for 2005 at its regular winter meeting over the weekend. Board officers serve one-year terms and are elected by the full Board of Directors.

Cynthia Homan, a shareholder at the law firm of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione in Chicago, was re-elected as Board Co-Chair. Charles MarLett, Dallas-based Associate General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of AMR Corporation, American Airlines and various subsidiaries of the companies, was elected Board Co-Chair. Lambda Legal’s Board of Directors has two Board Co-Chairs, one male and one female. Homan has served on the Board of Directors for the last two years, including the last year as Co-Chair. MarLett has served on the Board of Directors for three years and was the Board Secretary last year.

Tony Timiraos, a financial and business expert in South Florida, was re-elected as the Board Treasurer, and James McDonough, Associate General Counsel at Hollinger International in Chicago, was elected as the Board Secretary. McDonough replaces MarLett as Secretary. MarLett replaces Jamie Pedersen, a partner at the Seattle law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis, as Board Co-Chair. Pedersen, who served the traditional two terms as Co-Chair, will continue as a Board member in his seventh year.

“I am very grateful to my fellow Lambda Legal Board members for re-electing me to Co-Chair our Board of Directors in 2005. Serving as Co-Chair this past year was a terrifically rewarding experience, and I am eager to continue our work in the year ahead,” Homan said. “LGBT people and those with HIV, throughout all 50 states, face many challenges in these critical times. Lambda Legal is there, at the front line, taking on the current and emerging issues arising every day, everywhere, it often seems. I am honored to help Lambda Legal, and wish to thank my partner, MK, for her constant support and for reminding me by her central place in my life why we must help Lambda Legal continue its vital work.”

“It's an honor and a privilege to be associated with Lambda Legal -- particularly in such a dynamic and, at times, challenging environment,” MarLett said. “Each and every day, Lambda Legal continues the struggle for full equality for LGBT people and those with HIV. I look forward to helping, in whatever way I can, in that effort and hope to be able to entice others to join me in support of the critical work that Lambda Legal does."

Lambda Legal’s Board of Directors is comprised of 30 people from 10 states and the District of Columbia. The Co-Chairs lead the Board in guiding Lambda Legal’s programmatic direction and fundraising efforts.
