"The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announced the recipients of the 2007 Salute to Excellence Awards Saturday, August 11th. The annual competition honors work in print, television, radio, online and photojournalism.
"...The best radio commentary award went to Cory Turner and Nicole Childers' Personal View on the New Jersey Same Sex Marriage Ban which aired on National Public Radio."
The radio commentary featured an interview with Saundra Toby-Heath and Alicia Heath-Toby of Newark, NJ, one of the plaintiffs in Lambda Legal's case Lewis v. Harris seeking the right to marry in New Jersey. The case resulted in the enactment of the New Jersey civil union law.
