October 20, 2011

(Chicago, October 20, 2011) - Lambda Legal is pleased to announce the election of Robbin Burr as the new Co-Chair of its Board of Directors, and the election of Gail Morse as a new member. Also elected to the Board were Anne Krook of Seattle and Robert Kuhn of New York.

"We look forward to the larger role Robbin will play in the Board's leadership - she is smart and strategic and really understands how to govern and energize the work of a non-profit advocacy organization like ours. We are also excited about the legal experience and commitment Gail will bring to Lambda Legal as we continue to make the case for LGBT equality across the country," Lambda Legal Executive Director Kevin Cathcart said. "We greatly appreciate their dedication as volunteers, leaders and supporters of our work."

From 2004 to 2007, Robbin Burr served as the first Executive Director of Center on Halsted and was at the helm of the Center when the organization ran a capital campaign and completed construction of the current facility on Halsted. For her longstanding work as an activist and community leader, Burr was inducted into Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in October, 2007.

Burr began serving as a director on the Lambda Legal board in February of 2009 and has served as the board's Strategic Planning Committee Co-chair for the past year. Burr currently serves as MidAmerica Territory Diversity Relationship Manager for Prudential Insurance Company of America. Burr was also a co-founder and original member of the American Airlines Rainbow TeAAm, the first mainstream corporate marketing team dedicated to winning the loyalty of LGBT consumers.

"I am extraordinarily proud to step into a board co-chair position for Lambda Legal," said Burr. "In my opinion, Lambda Legal is one of the smartest, best run LGBT organizations in the country. We know our progress towards equality will be greatly influenced by Lambda Legal's progress in the courts. I'm honored to be a part of the work."

Gail H. Morse earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1982, and her Masters of Law in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1986. Gail, partner at Jenner & Block, currently leads the firm's national state and local tax practice, providing both state tax planning and controversy guidance on a national basis.

"I am deeply honored to have been elected to the Board of Directors and to work alongside the passionate and dedicated staff at Lambda Legal," said Morse. "I'm especially thrilled to have been elected at the same board meeting that Robbin Burr was elected as co-chair and to be working with her. LGBT families are better protected with each legal victory and I look forward to contributing in a greater capacity."
