“LGBT Hoosiers deserve meaningful protections from discrimination. Indiana Senate leadership should have crafted a clean bill to do just that—but instead, they have failed LGBT Hoosiers utterly.”
February 3, 2016

(Indianapolis, IN, February 2, 2016)—Today, after reports that the Indiana Senate will not debate or vote on Senate Bill 344, a deeply flawed piece of legislation that would have effectively hurt LGBT Hoosiers, Camilla Taylor, Counsel in the Midwest Regional Office issued the following statement:

“LGBT Hoosiers deserve meaningful protections from discrimination. Indiana Senate leadership should have crafted a clean bill to do just that—but instead, they have failed LGBT Hoosiers utterly. It is disappointing that we cannot get a good faith effort to extend to LGBT people the protections that they desperately need and deserve.”

“We said from the very beginning, that we would not support a bill that did not equally protect transgender people or that had damaging carve outs that legalized discrimination and this bill did just that. Lambda Legal is again calling on Indiana’s leadership to do right by our community and truly help them. It is long overdue.”
