“It is also an honor for me to be able to do what I love and to stand up for people, especially now.”
July 31, 2017

(Chicago, IL, July 31, 2017)—Crain’s Chicago Business today announced the selection of Lambda Legal Senior Counsel, Camilla Taylor, as one of the Most Influential Women Lawyers in Chicago. Lambda Legal congratulates Camilla Taylor on this special recognition.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for someone who is a brilliant advocate and strategist. Camilla has been an influential constitutional lawyer and professor in Chicago and in the community of LGBT civil rights advocates for a very long time,” said Christopher Clark, Midwest Regional Director of Lambda Legal. “As the architect of Varnum v. Brien, the unanimous win in 2009 that struck down the ban on same-sex marriage in Iowa, Camilla changed the game. That victory influenced not just every marriage case that came after it, but also the way we talked about how the denial of equal participation in such an important institution hurt families and children. I am thrilled to see the important work of my longtime friend and colleague recognized.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by Crain’s Chicago, especially in the company of such an impressive group of attorneys,” said Camilla Taylor. “It is also an honor for me to be able to do what I love and to stand up for people, especially now. I am committed to fighting, with everything that I have, for the full civil rights of LGBT people and everyone living with HIV. When our communities are threatened, I and Lambda Legal will respond quickly and decisively. The Constitution and the law are on our side.”

Taylor has been recognized by Crain’s Chicago before. She was named one of Chicago’s 40 Under 40 in 2009, a recognition given to “the builders, thinkers and leaders who make us hopeful about our city's future.”
