Brief Amicus Curiae of Clergy Members in Support of Marriage

Case: Lewis v. Harris

Monday, November 14, 2005
| The Supreme Court of New Jersey

This brief filed by various religious leaders in the state of New Jersey in support of marriage equality for same-sex couples makes a compelling case for the court to permit civil marriages. Religious and civil marriage are two distinct and separate institutions and giving same-sex couples the freedom to marry does not infringe upon the freedom of any group to practice their religion, but does further government guarantees of equality for all under the law.
