Brian J. Richardson, former Deputy Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Health, has been named Lambda Legal’s Midwest Regional Director, based in Chicago.
Today, in the Lambda Legal case Jorgensen v. Montplaisir, the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota lifted the stay on the case and struck down the state’s discriminatory marriage ban.
Lambda Legal called on three courts to act immediately to strike down bans on marriage for same-sex couples in North Dakota, Louisiana and Puerto Rico in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic ruling declaring marriage bans across the country unconstitutional. Lambda Legal is litigating marriage cases in those jurisdictions which have been pending during the Supreme Court’s consideration.
It’s only Thursday and already so much has happened since Monday, when the Supreme Court announced that it would not take up cases from Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin that struck down state bans on marriage for same-sex couples — making it possible for same-sex couples to begin marrying in those five states.
