*Zalika Wright is a current Lambda Legal client in a pending matter before the EEOC (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). They work as a certified occupational therapy assistant in multiple public elementary schools in the Phoenix, AZ area. They love their work, and they have been supported by many of their coworkers and clients.

However, when their doctors (and even their own health plan) found that certain transition-related health care was medically necessary for them, their claim was denied because of an outdated and discriminatory provision in their health plan that excludes all transition-related care, even if the same care would be covered for any other reason.

Thousands of public school employees across Arizona are subject to similar exclusions. Lambda Legal is working with Zalika to challenge the exclusion of medically necessary care.
