Jamie Gliksberg is a senior attorney at Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV.

Gliksberg’s work at Lambda Legal is focused on First Amendment issues, particularly defending against the use of religion as a sword to unlawfully legalize and legitimize discrimination against LGBT people and people living with HIV.

She is a lead attorney on Marouf v. Azar, a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Health and Human Services and the Conference of Catholic Bishops for their use of federal, taxpayer dollars to discriminate against LGBT people.

Her cases often involve advocating for equal access to health care and child welfare services where Gliksberg is at the forefront of developing Lambda Legal’s strategies for combating the current White House administration’s attempts to elevate discriminatory conscience objections over the needs of patients, including LGBT patients who are refused medical care on the basis of the provider’s religious beliefs.

Gliksberg’s work also includes defending the rights of people living with HIV to privacy regarding their status. She currently serves as lead attorney in Doe v. AJ Boggs & Co., class action litigation brought on behalf of 93 Californians with low incomes living with HIV. Their confidential medical records, including their HIV status, were compromised by a data breach of California’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program’s online enrollment system.

She has extensive pro bono experience in a variety of civil rights matters, including advocacy fighting against prison abuse. Gliksberg advocated on behalf of numerous clients in VAWA and asylum proceedings, including representing individuals seeking relief from persecution in their home countries on the basis of their LGBT status.

Earlier in her career, Gliksberg was an attorney at Steptoe & Johnson and Sidley Austin, where she specialized in class action and complex commercial litigation. While in private practice, Gliksberg served as pro bono counsel and as a Public Interest Law Initiative graduate fellow, both for Lambda Legal.

Gliksberg received her Juris Doctor from Northwestern Law School, where she graduated cum laude.  There, she was a member of the Order of the Coif, as well as the managing editor and articles editor of the Northwestern Journal of Law and Social Policy.  She is a member of the state bar of Illinois.
