Lambda Legal seeks a Membership Assistant to join their Development Department. The Membership Assistant will provide donor customer service, research, and administrative support to the Member Services team. The position reports to the Director of Member Services. Because Lambda Legal’s fundraising efforts are structured around teamwork and flexibility, the Membership Assistant will be called upon to assume responsibilities for additional Development sub departments.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Membership Assistant is their role as a concierge for donors at all levels, ensuring they receive information and service promptly. Through email, phone, snail-mail and the website correspondence, the Membership Assistant will maintain the accuracy of donor information and facilitate the outward distribution of Lambda Legal materials, programmatic updates, and other announcements. This work is aimed at inspiring donors to become more involved with the organization, both as financial supporters and as issue activists.

Member Services

  • Assist in responding to questions and queries from members, donors and the general public
  • Maintain database to record communication with donors and maintain donor records
  • Contact donors to resolve donation issues, such as missing information or declined credit-cards
  • Assist in the receipting process for all individual gifts
  • Fulfill the benefits for Lambda Legal’s donor programs (ex. Justice Fund and Liberty Circle)
  • Aid in donor prospecting
  • Maintain envelopes, thank you cards, brochures, etc. inventory for Member Services

Development Support

  • Provide administrative and on-site support for Development events
  • Assist in external organization wide communications to donors
  • Help manage Development interns in the NYC office
  • Aid the Planned Giving department with correspondence to Guardian Society Members, planning Planned Giving events, and updating estate and trust information

Qualifications

  • Previous donor/customer service experience preferred
  • Previous experience working with Raiser’s Edge and Luminate Online preferred
  • Previous experience in a fundraising capacity for a non-profit preferred
  • Be comfortable answering and making donor calls and assisting in customer service in real time
  • Work both within a team and independently as needed. Ability to understand how their daily tasks affect the organization and more broadly, the work and mission.
  • Be adaptable in a fast-paced environment. Lambda Legal is both a proactive and reactive organization. Daily news cycles can often alter previously agreed upon scheduled tasks
  • Ability to quickly learn how to use donor databases
  • Have a high level of computer skills including internet research, Word, Excel, and Power Point skills
  • Demonstrate outstanding written communication and analytical skills

Serving the full breadth of the LGBT and HIV communities requires cultural competency and a commitment to addressing the multi-layered and interlocking forms of discrimination and oppression that exist in our society, including discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, immigration status, religion, education and class. Any successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their understanding and appreciation of the importance of integrating our commitment to combating these other forms of discrimination into our work to eradicate discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or HIV status.

Salary
