Lambda Legal is seeking dynamic students for a spring internship to join us in our New Year office as a Community Engagement & Pride Intern to help coordinate Lambda Legal’s presence in Pride nationally, with a primary focus on assisting with our involvement in NYC Pride. This is an excellent opportunity for students (undergraduate or graduate) interested in LGBT civil rights and social justice, event management, community organizing, PR/marketing/communications. The intern will work under the supervision of the Regional Director, New York and National Community Engagement Director.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating Lambda Legal’s national presence in over 10+ Prides, with your primary focus as a point person for assisting in the planning and logistics of involvement in NYC Pride, which will take place on Sunday, June 24th, 2018
  • Assist in managing event logistics, Pride and volunteer database, track timelines, and help coordinate internal staff, external partners, stakeholders, and volunteers
  • Assist in drafting memos, external communications, and support sharing information and materials across multiple departments, regional offices, and functional areas
  • Assist in organizing our participation at NY regional engagement events, including community events, summits, organizing rallies, etc
  • Assist the Marketing team with the creative development and execution of Pride collateral supplies, and activation, as needed
  • May require manual labor, which includes being able to lift boxes over 15 pounds and transporting materials and supplies within the office and across the city
  • May require some local city travel, contingent on travel and staffing needs

Qualifications

Interns will have a chance to work with staff members across departments, functional areas, and regional offices. Each intern is expected to work 15-20 hours per week (flexible) with fuller availability in the month of June. The intern must be available to work fuller hours the weekend of June 22-25th, 2018 in preparation for NYC Pride which is Sunday, June 24th.

We are seeking highly motivated, organized, and responsible college students looking to gain experience working with a non-profit. Strong interest in the LGBT social justice movement required. Prior internship experience is not a requirement, but we do require strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Candidate should have intermediate to advanced user knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Preference to candidates who have strong interest and/or experience in event management, marketing, and volunteer coordination. 

Compensation

This is a volunteer, unpaid internship. We are happy to grant course credit.
