Protect Yourself: Tax, Life and Financial Planning

Benjamin Franklin once said, “In this life nothing is certain but death and taxes.” But for lesbian, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people (LGBT) and people living with HIV, there’s an added concern:

We must take extra measures in life and financial planning to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the potentially devastating effects of an unjust, discriminatory system.

From January 15 to April 15, Lambda Legal will be hosting a series of tax, life and financial planning seminars and teleconferences. Below is a current schedule of events, as well as useful materials for download.

IRS Community Property 101

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that it will apply community property laws to California, Washington, and Nevada registered domestic partners and California same-sex spouses to reflect "income-splitting"—in the same way that it applies those laws to different-sex married couples who file their federal income tax returns separately.
