Fight HIV Discrimination in the Foreign Service
The government's problem
Lambda Legal represents Lorenzo Taylor, who was denied employment by the U.S. Foreign Service because he has HIV. The State Department illegally prohibits anyone with HIV from being hired into the Foreign Service, regardless of the applicant's qualifications or health status. Our lawsuit says the State Department's policy violates the federal Rehabilitation Act, which prohibits the federal government from discriminating against people with disabilities.

Our fight
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has the power to change the State Department's policy and end discrimination against people with HIV once and for all. We delivered 17,000 petition signatures and a letter signed by 40 prominent civil rights and health organizations asking the secretary of state to change this discriminatory policy. As Taylor's case moves to trial, we're gearing up for the next round.
