  • 2012 Marriage equality law goes into effect January 2013, but that may be delayed if opponents gather enough signatures to force a voter referendum in November 2012.
  • 2000 Pro-marriage bill introduced. HB 919, a bill to eliminate sex discrimination in marriage, is introduced. It would allow “two consenting adults” to marry, rather than restricting the freedom to marry to different-sex couples. Blocked in committee.

Baltimore County Grants Spousal Benefits to Employees with Same-Sex Spouses After Lambda Legal Arbitration Victory
Baltimore County announced that, beginning January, it will extend spousal benefits to all county employees who are married to a same-sex spouse. This comes on the heels of an arbitrator’s ruling in favor of Lambda Legal clients Margaret Selby and Juanika Ballard, Baltimore County police officers who had been denied benefits for their same-sex spouses.
