- 2008 In a 4-3 decision, the Connecticut Supreme Court awards full access to marriage to the state's gay and lesbian residents, making Connecticut the third state in the nation to grant marriage equality to same-sex couples.
- 2005 The Connecticut legislature passes a comprehensive civil unions bill, granting many of same rights and obligations of marriage to same-sex couples. However, the legislation also includes a clause which affirms that marriage is defined as an institution between one man and one woman in the state.
- 2000 Connecticut offers domestic partner benefits to state employees, but does not offer a domestic partner registry.
