Petition

Give President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee a fair hearing and a swift vote.

The Constitution is clear: The President nominates justices to the Supreme Court, and the Senate confirms or rejects them.

On March 16, President Obama put forward his Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland. But Senate Republicans refuse to give Judge Garland a fair hearing. They’re calling into question the President’s authority to fulfill his constitutional responsibility to fill court vacancies.

The Constitution embodies and seeks to safeguard our nation’s highest values, including a commitment to protecting individual rights against overreaching majority will. Court victories have and will continue to be a vital path to equality for LGBT people, people of color, women and other marginalized groups.

The work of the U.S. Supreme Court is too important to leave a seat vacant for a year.

Demand that U.S. senators do their job and give President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee a fair hearing and a swift vote. Sign our petition today!
