- 2004 The state’s Constitution was amended to say “Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as legal in Kentucky. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.” See Kentucky Constitution § 233A.
- 1998 Kentucky prohibits marriage between same-sex couples by statute. See Kentucky Code Title XXXV §§ 402.005, 402.020, 402.040 and 402.045.
