George Einsetler and Cameron Murdock
CONTACT: Western Regional Office, 213-382-7600
George Einsetler has served the Bellevue community as a 911 dispatcher for more than 13 years. As a dispatcher he copes with highly stressful calls that include residents who are suicidal, have experienced or witnessed violent crime, are suffering from dire health problems or seeking assistance with traumatic events like fires. In 2006 the city acknowledged George's excellent service and loyalty by promoting him to lead dispatcher.
In 2004, George met Cameron Murdock and they have now been in a committed relationship for more than three years. The couple have gladly accepted and committed themselves to the responsibilities of caring for each other through times of emotional and financial need, including being responsible for one another's financial obligations. One such obligation has been the out-of-pocket costs that Cameron has incurred due to his health needs. After Cameron received his Master's Degree from the University of British Columbia he had no affordable access to health insurance during his job search, while he was employed part-time, or while he was waiting to become eligible for insurance through his new employer. This could have been avoided if the city offered family benefits to the same-sex partners of gay and lesbian employees.
