Lambda Legal to Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Rep. John Boehner: Approve Revisions to Americans With Disabilities Act

(New York, NY June 23, 2008) — In letters submitted to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and Rep. John Boehner, House Republican Leader, Lambda Legal urges the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 3195 the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, a bill that clarifies the definition of what qualifies as a disability, to cover anyone who faces unfair discrimination because of a disability.

Lambda Legal Defends Westchester County Executive Spano in Marriage Recognition Lawsuit

(New York, NY June 23, 2008) — In oral arguments today at the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department, Lambda Legal defended County Executive Spano's responsibility to adhere to New York law and recognize out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples.

Brief Filed on Initiative Procedure

(San Francisco, June 20, 2008) – Three California voters and four organizations dedicated to protecting the civil rights of gay and lesbian people filed a lawsuit in the California Supreme Court today about an initiative that seeks to change the California Constitution to bar gay and lesbian couples from marriage. That initiative is currently slated to appear on the November ballot.

Lambda Legal Applauds Introduction of Ordinance Amendment to Preserve Domestic Partner Benefits in Chicago

Ohio Appeals Court Issues Ruling in Lambda Legal Case Representing Lesbian Mother: Validity of Shared Custody Agreements May Not Be Attacked Years Later

(Franklin County, OH, June 16, 2008) — The Tenth District Ohio Appeals Court ruled, on June 10, 2008, that lesbian mother Denise Fairchild should never have been permitted to attack the enforceability of a shared custody agreement with her former partner Therese Leach.


Fairchild argued that Article XV, Section 11 of the Ohio Constitution, an anti-gay amendment concerning marriage that passed as a ballot initiative in November 2004, invalidated the court-approved agreement she originally sought with Leach and entered into in 2001.

Lambda Legal Announces Two Partnerships to Improve Out-of-Home Care for LGBTQ Youth

Breaking News: Virginia Supreme Court Affirms Custody Case Ruling Favoring Lesbian Mother: Lambda Legal Declares Victory

(Virginia, June 6, 2008) — Today, the Virginia Supreme Court affirmed a prior ruling by the Virginia Court of Appeals that said that the state must honor the Vermont Supreme Court's order of visitation between Janet Jenkins and her daughter.

Lambda Legal Urges Maryland Court to Throw Out Misleading Referendum Petition That Seeks to Overturn a Transgender Rights Law

(Montgomery County, Maryland, June 2, 2008) — Today Lambda Legal and Equality Maryland filed a motion for summary judgment in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, asking it to invalidate a referendum petition seeking to overturn a law, enacted unanimously by the Montgomery County Council, that adds gender identity as a protected characteristic in their antidiscrimination ordinance.
