'With the death of David Springer, we have lost not only a great legal mind, but a kind and generous friend and colleague.'
June 21, 2007

(New York, June 21, 2007) --- Today, Lambda Legal issued the following statement from Legal Director, Jon W. Davidson, mourning the death of David E. Springer, a partner at the Chicago Office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Springer served as co-counsel in Nabozny v. Podlesny, Lambda Legal's landmark lawsuit that found that schools could be held accountable for antigay violence against their students, and Wadington v. Holmdel Township Board of Education, where Lambda Legal is representing a lesbian former student who is suing the school district for not protecting her from ongoing antigay harassment.

"With the death of David Springer, we have lost not only a great legal mind, but a kind and generous friend and colleague. David's dedication to our work, helping to secure a victory that holds schools accountable for the safety of their gay and lesbian students, continues to protect and empower youth throughout the nation. David was always generous---donating his time, energy, creativity and intellect to pursue the advancement of the LGBT movement and the mission of Lambda Legal. We send our most sincere condolences to his partner, Bill, and their family for this great loss."
