(New York, September 6, 2006) — Today, Lambda Legal announces the hire of two new attorneys, Bebe J. Anderson and Bonnie Scott Jones, to its national headquarters in New York.

“Bebe J. Anderson and Bonnie Scott Jones both bring impressive records of inspired legal work, and we are thrilled to welcome them to Lambda Legal,” said Jon W. Davidson, Legal Director of Lambda Legal. “We look forward to the ways their fresh perspectives and extraordinary talents will shape our future work.”

Anderson joins Lambda Legal as the new HIV Project Director, bringing with her significant experience on behalf of people with HIV, having served as Co-Executive Director of the HIV Law Project in New York. She also possesses a deep understanding of constitutional law, having served as a staff attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights for more than eight years. Anderson obtained her J.D. from Columbia University Law School in 1981 and her B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1974. She previously was a partner at the Oakland, California firm of Erickson, Beasley, Hewitt & Wilson, a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of New York City, and an associate in the New York office of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (now Pillsbury Winthrop).

“I am overjoyed at the opportunity to continue my work advocating on behalf of people living with HIV by joining Lambda Legal’s incredible work establishing legal protections for those with HIV,” said Bebe J. Anderson, HIV Project Director for Lambda Legal.

Jones, who has been a lawyer for 13 years, likewise has an extensive background litigating constitutional issues in state and federal courts, along with important policy and public education experience. Prior to joining Lambda Legal, Jones was a Staff Attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights in New York. While at CRR, she was lead counsel in a lawsuit challenging a Kansas law that called on doctors, school counselors, psychotherapists and others to report any kind of suspected sexual activity in youth under the age of 16. The law was so broad that it could call upon a counselor to report a 15 year-old couple kissing as evidence of abuse to child welfare services. Before working at CRR, Jones clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mary Johnson Lowe. Jones obtained her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1993 and her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in 1987.

“I am proud to be a part of this fantastic team of attorneys, working hard to end legal discrimination in every aspect of the lives of LGBT people and those with HIV,” said Scott. “I look forward to the work ahead.”
