(Atlanta, December 2, 2009) - Lambda Legal congratulates Simone Bell, Lambda Legal staff member, who was elected Tuesday to be Assemblywoman for Georgia House District 58.

"We are enormously proud of Simone and her dedication to public service and social justice. She is a genuine leader who will represent her constituents well," said Kevin Cathcart, Executive Director of Lambda Legal. "Many former Lambda Legal staff members have moved on to become judges or work in government at all levels, but Simone is our first staff member to be elected to a state legislature."

Bell joined Lambda Legal in 2006 as the Community Educator for the Southern Regional Office based in Atlanta which covers a 10 state region. She organized numerous educational forums and lead scores of "know your rights" trainings for a variety of audiences throughout the southern region. While at Lambda Legal, Simone was most adept at listening to the needs and interests in the community and then bringing together people from different backgrounds to begin developing collective strategies for change. Bell has been on leave from her position at Lambda Legal during her campaign.
