"We extend congratulations to Delawareans who now have the freedom to marry. It is an exciting time for same-sex couples in Delaware who are planning their weddings or looking forward to converting their civil unions to marriages."

(Wilmington, June 25, 2013) — With Delaware's marriage law soon to take effect, Lambda Legal and Equality Delaware have released a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) guide for same-sex couples in Delaware who are considering getting married or have civil unions.

"We extend congratulations to Delawareans who now have the freedom to marry. It is an exciting time for same-sex couples in Delaware who are planning their weddings or looking forward to converting their civil unions to marriages," said Susan Sommer, Lambda Legal Director of Constitutional Litigation. "We expect many families will have questions about what the new law means for them and how to get married in Delaware. This FAQ offers information for Delaware residents who are wondering how marriage can help protect their families."

"Equality Delaware is pleased to once again work with Lambda Legal to produce an FAQ for new and important legislation.  We expect July 1, 2013 to be a joyous day in Delaware for all loving same-sex couples who will now be able to marry under the laws of our great state," said Equality Delaware President, Lisa Goodman.

The Delaware Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Act of 2013 passed the state legislature on May 7, 2013 and was signed by Governor Markell on the same day. The law goes into effect on July 1, 2013.
