Furthermore, they must not misinform users about the origin or ownership of Lambda Legal content. Links from Lambda Legal
This section outlines the criteria and requirements that external websites should meet to have a link on the Lambda Legal website. It also details how links are accepted and removed from the Lambda Legal website.
Lambda Legal reserves the right to link to external websites that it feels would provide a service or otherwise be of value to constituents.
External Link Criteria
At its discretion, Lambda Legal posts links to other nonprofit organizations, media outlets, foundations, think tanks, government entities and other resources that provide information and services that benefit our website users. These links help us supplement our niche expertise in civil rights work through the courts for LGBT people and those with HIV throughout the country. Lambda Legal will not secure permission to link to these sites unless it is required.
Generally speaking, Lambda Legal does not link to other organizations/entities from its homepage, although we will occasionally consider linking to media outlets and partner organizations from the homepage. Lambda Legal does not post banner ads for other organizations/entities on its homepage or accept advertisements for events, initiatives, campaigns, etc. Links to external websites will appear on Lambda Legal subpages or on one of our campaign subsites.
Lambda Legal will only evaluate link requests that meet the following criteria:
- The external website is a partner organization, resource or otherwise corresponds with Lambda Legal’s mission.
- The external website is not commercial in nature (i.e., selling goods or services).
- The external website does not further the agenda of a partisan organization or candidate running for office.
- Lambda Legal reserves the right to deny link requests at its discretion. Lambda Legal will deny a request if conflicts with Lambda Legal’s mission or does not fit into the scope of Lambda Legal’s work.
Review Process
- Email link requests to webmaster@lambdalegal.org, indicating "Link Request" in the subject line. Each link request should explain why the entity or individual is requesting the link.
- The link request will be reviewed against the acceptance criteria set forth above.
- Approved sites must comply with the following conditions for link maintenance and may be required to enter into reciprocal linkage with Lambda Legal.
Conditions for Link Maintenance on Lambda Legal
Lambda Legal requires that external websites linked from the Lambda Legal website meet the following conditions in order to maintain a link:
- When the user clicks on the external website link, he/she must have easy access back to Lambda Legal. One of two options can accomplish this:
- A link to Lambda Legal can be established on the external website's main page; or
- The "Back" button returns the user to Lambda Legal.
- Linked sites must have a privacy policy accessible from their homepage informing the user of personal information collection and use practices.
- Linked sites should not excessively burden the Lambda Legal website management system. If the site excessively burdens the Lambda Legal website management system, Lambda Legal has discretion to remove the link from the Lambda Legal website.
- Linked sites must notify Lambda Legal at the email address provided above if the site to which Lambda Legal links become inaccurate or inactive.
Removal Process
Lambda Legal reserves the right to remove links at its discretion. Lambda Legal will remove a link if it determines that a website contains misleading or unsubstantiated claims, conflicts with Lambda Legal’s mission or does not fit into the scope of Lambda Legal’s overall work.
Links may be removed at the request of the external site by sending an email to the address above, with "Link Removal" as the subject line.
Links will be reviewed periodically and may be removed for the following reasons:
- The link no longer points to the original information or resource to which it was intended to point.
- The website pointed to by the link contains inaccurate or misleading information or has changed such that it is no longer in compliance with the acceptance criteria.
- The website pointed to by the link violates the conditions for link maintenance.
- Access to the information has become difficult due to nonstandard formatting, lengthy download times or intrusive advertising.
- The link is permanently unreachable or remains unavailable for a lengthy period
