DOCUMENTARY: GEN SILENT

Krysallis Anne Hembrough, the 60-year-old transwoman who dies of lung cancer in the documentary Gen Silent, is without any family in her last days; most of her blood relatives have rejected her transition and refused to see her. In a self-made video that director Stu Maddux incorporates into the film, Hembrough struggles to breathe and talks into the camera about her suffering. She recalls her life’s biggest challenges—fighting in Vietnam, transitioning, family troubles—but says dying alone is the hardest of all.  “This is terrifying,” she gasps. “Don’t let it happen to anyone you know.”
