Lambda Legal’s Robert Bonvoulior “Bon” Foster Celebration honors the late civil rights activist and attorney who was an outspoken opponent of injustice and challenged others to demand the best for themselves, and never settled for any less from himself. A generous bequest from Bon Foster’s estate established Lambda Legal’s Chicago based Midwest Regional Office in 1993, beginning a 20 year legacy of civil rights victories won by Lambda Legal in the heartland.
Launched as the Bon Foster Memorial Lecture Series in 1994, the event has grown to become one of Lambda Legal’s major fundraising events nationwide, raising more than half a million dollars in 2014. The event honors the memory of Bon Foster with a continued focus on highlighting the ground breaking civil rights work of our movement. Past speakers include civil rights activist Coretta Scott King (1998), tennis legend Billie Jean King (1999), Judge Abner Mikva (2001), Obama White House Official Tina Tchen (2010) and Zach Wahls, LGBT Activist and YouTube Sensation (2011).
Lambda Legal is nationally recognized as a leader in the fight for equal and fair treatment of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV. This work is possible because of generous individuals, law firms, corporations and foundations that support our cause and donate to the organization. Bon Foster offers a full complement of opportunities for you or your company to demonstrate your support for Lambda Legal’s work with valuable recognition and benefits.
