Lambda Legal Files Administrative Complaints Against Two More Louisiana Insurers Targeting People with HIV 02/13/2014

(New Orleans, LA, February 13, 2014) – Lambda Legal announced today that it has filed administrative complaints with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights against two additional Louisiana health insurers who are adopting BlueCross BlueShield of Louisiana's (BCBS's) approach and are no longer accepting federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) third-party premium subsidies for low-income Louisianans living with HIV.

(Chicago, IL, February 11, 2014) — Ron Dorfman, veteran Chicago journalist and activist, died yesterday in his home from heart failure. Mr. Dorfman and his husband Ken Ilio were married on December 13, 2013 after Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Illinois filed a lawsuit on their behalf seeking immediate issuance of marriage licenses for Illinois same-sex couples where one partner has a terminal illness.

Sandoval.

Virginia Marriage Case Given Class-Action Status 01/31/2014

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Today, a federal district court in Virginia certified as a class action a lawsuit challenging that state’s ban on marriage for same-sex couples, extending the scope of those represented in the lawsuit to all same-sex couples in the state who cannot legally marry or whose legal marriages performed elsewhere are not recognized by the Commonwealth.

Iowa Supreme Court to Hear Appeal of HIV-Positive Man in Lambda Legal Case 01/27/2014

(Des Moines, IA,January 27, 2014) — Yesterday the Iowa Supreme Court granted review of the conviction of Nick Rhoades, an HIV-positive Iowan who was initially sentenced to 25 years in prison and required to register as a sex offender after having a one-time sexual encounter with another man during which they used a condom.
