Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the U.S. Supreme Court urging the Court to reject arguments made by religiously affiliated nonprofit organizations who argue that it burdens their religious beliefs simply to notify the federal government that they are opting out of providing their employees insurance coverage for contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday in support of the Texas abortion clinics, physicians who perform abortions and Texas women who need abortion services, who are challenging Texas’s unduly burdensome abortion regulations.
Lawsuit seeking compensation for Sandra Lively, a registered nurse at North Carolina hospital Park Ridge Health, for the thousands of dollars of expenses she incurred when the hospital refused to allow her to enroll her same-sex spouse in the employee health plan.
Lambda Legal has submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in support of a transgender police officer in Nevada who was banned from the workplace restroom consistent with his gender identity and mistreated in other ways. The plaintiff is a man who is also transgender. Although assigned female at birth, he has a male gender identity. The employer ultimately lifted its restroom ban after a year, but continues to argue in court that its actions were legal, which would allow other employers to repeat its conduct.
Lambda Legal filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against a Boulder County property owner who violated the federal Fair Housing Act and the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act by refusing to rent a housing unit she owns in Gold Hill, Colorado, to a same-sex couple, one of whom is transgender, and their children because she worried their “uniqueness” would jeopardize her standing in the community.
Summary Lambda Legal is urging the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse a lower court ruling and allow Jameka Evans to present her case alleging that Georgia Regional Hospital of Savannah harassed and punished her, eventually forcing her resignation, because she is a lesbian.
Federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina on behalf of Melissa and Meredith Weiss, a married lesbian couple seeking birth certificates listing both mothers as parents of their two sons.
