During the holiday season we often find ourselves spending time with family and friends. It’s a great chance to catch up with people we may not see very often throughout the year, but it can also mean spending time with people who are not shy about voicing disapproval of same-sex couples who marry or wish to marry.
Yesterday, the California Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed the state’s first openly gay appellate justice. Back in 1979, California Governor Jerry Brown made history when he appointed the first openly gay judge in the United States, Stephen Lachs, to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

An Iowa court today ordered the state health department to give a married lesbian couple an accurate death certificate for their son, who was stillborn in October 2011. The department had erased the name of one of the moms from the original certificate.
