An Iowa court today ordered the state health department to give a married lesbian couple an accurate death certificate for their son, who was stillborn in October 2011. The department had erased the name of one of the moms from the original certificate.

Today Rep. Greg Harris and Sen. Heather Steans announced that they will call for a vote early in 2013 on House Bill 5710, The Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act. Lambda Legal issued the following statement from Camilla Taylor, Marriage Project Director for Lambda Legal:
For the first time in history, the Court will be hearing two gay rights cases in one term, focusing public attention on the right of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals to equality under the law and of same-sex couples to have their relationships treated equally by the federal government and, at least, by the State of California.
