Lambda Legal, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC Foundation), and the LGBT Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association, with pro bono assistance from Hogan Lovells US, LLP, have jointly released a unique, groundbreaking publication that will provide much-needed guidance to hospitals seeking to improve health care for transgender patients.
Lambda Legal today filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the New York Court of Appeals urging the court to reinstate the 2009 conviction of Dwight DeLee, who was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter as a hate crime in the 2008 shooting death in Syracuse of Lateisha Green, a transgender woman.
Lambda Legal Senior Staff Attorney Thomas Ude, Jr said:
Today Lambda Legal announced a landmark settlement for Cori McCreery, a transgender woman in South Dakota who was terminated from her job after she informed her employer that she would be taking steps to transition from male to female at work.
Some people within our community feel that resources and attention are disproportionately directed towards marriage equality, perhaps at the expense of transgender rights, immigrant rights or poor people’s rights—all communities that fall under our LGBT umbrella.
