Marriage Bill Advances in Illinois Senate
Marriage Bill Advances in Illinois Senate
by James L. Bennett, Regional Director
February 5, 2013
The Illinois Senate Executive Committee voted today in favor of a bill that would provide marriage for same-sex couples. The vote was 9 to 5. The bill now advances to the Senate floor.
The day when loving, committed same-sex couples in Illinois can marry feels imminent, and Lambda Legal is energized by this vote. Our state is ready to become the 10th state where same-sex couples have the freedom to marry, and we urge people across the state to call their senators and urge them to vote in favor of the bill when it comes to a vote as early as next week. It’s just time.
Contact your lawmakers and urge them to vote for the freedom to marry.
Sign our pledge and support the freedom to marry in Illinois.
