A letter from Illinois State Representative, Greg Harris, 13th District, Lead Sponsor of the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act:

I’ve voted on my fair share of important bills in my time in the Illinois House of Representatives.

But few moments in my legislative career can compare to late Tuesday night when I joined a majority of my colleagues in the House Executive Committee to advance the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act to the House floor.

Tuesday’s successful committee vote wasn’t just any vote - it was a historic accomplishment that brings us just one step away from winning the freedom to marry for all Illinois families.

The House vote on SB10 will likely happen any day now. Our opponents are working feverishly to defeat this legislation and we need your help to continue our forward momentum. Even if you've already contacted your legislator, now is the time to tell them again that their district supports marriage equality.

Ask your Representative to stand with you - and the majority of Illinoisans - by voting in favor of the marriage bill on the House floor. Click here to take action now.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that this bill is about a lot more than politics and legislation. It’s personal - for me and the countless gay and lesbian citizens of Illinois who are waiting for our state to extend the protections and respect all families deserve.

Together, we’ve built a grassroots movement that has changed the conversation, mobilized thousands of supporters to take action, and grown support for the freedom to marry in every region of the state.

But now, in the final days of this campaign, it’s critical that we keep up the pressure until this bill passes. I’m prepared to put it all on the line until we pass SB10 in the House. I hope that you are too.

Each message sent to your Representative is one message closer to winning marriage in Illinois. Contact your Representative now and ask them to vote YES on the House floor.

This is our moment. We have the passion, we have the momentum - now it’s just up to us to secure the votes we need to make Illinois the 10th state where all loving couples can share in the freedom to marry.

Let’s do this,
Greg Harris
