Hilary Meyer is the Fair Courts Project Manager for Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV. Meyer promotes a fair and impartial judiciary by monitoring federal and state legislation and developing advocacy and education initiatives for the LGBT and allied communities.
Prior to joining Lambda Legal in 2006, Meyer was a litigation associate at Reitman Parsonnet, and a summer associate at the Dwyer Law Firm, representing employees and unions in New Jersey. Meyer drafted pleadings, briefs and motions for employee discrimination suits on both the federal and state levels. She also advised labor unions on welfare, pension and annuity issues.
Meyer earned her J.D. from Rutgers Law School – Newark and graduated magna cum laude and With Honors in Psychology from Colgate University. During law school, Meyer was a member of the Moot Court Board and the Articles and Publicity Editor of the Women's Rights Law Reporter. She was a teaching assistant in the Legal Research and Writing Department and was the recipient of the Women in Federal Practice Scholarship. Meyer also completed a summer fellowship at the Human Rights Campaign, tracking and analyzing state and federal legislation of relevance to the LGBT community.
Before going to law school, Meyer worked in the social work field as a direct care case manager for chronic mentally ill adults living in the community, and as a human services worker on a children's crisis intervention unit of a hospital.
