Lambda Legal seeks a National Events Manager (NEM) to join their Development Department. The National Events Manager reports to the National Events Director and works closely with the Director of Development and other Development Staff to maintain and expand Lambda Legal’s national events. Lambda Legal is a national, nonprofit organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education, and public policy work. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in New York City, Lambda Legal has regional offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas.
The National Events Manager (NEM) is responsible for planning, managing, executing or assisting on a wide range of special events, from large sit-down dinners (600+) to mid-size cocktail receptions and small house parties. Together with the National Events Director, the NEM is responsible for overseeing the smooth processing and recording of events-related donations by working with staff across the Development and Finance Departments.
The NEM will work directly with the Major Gifts Officers (MGOs), volunteer committees, volunteer leadership, and all corporate and institutional sponsors of assigned events.
The NEM will manage all tasks required for a successful event including: developing budgets and timelines; devising solicitation strategies; negotiating vendor contracts; organizing site visits; volunteer coordination; design and production of event promotional materials including invitations, social media and other collateral; ticketing and seating; etc.
The NEM will manage all online event materials, email correspondence, and social media publicity, in collaboration with Events Coordinators and maintain complete and accurate records of all Development events across the country, including internal event calendar and creation of event modules and revenue codes in Raisers Edge. The National Events Manager will oversee proper data entry for all events-related donations and work with the Database team to correct errors and omissions.
The NEM will prepare the necessary documentation and reports for the Accounting & Finance Department in advance of each annual audit.
Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing and managing volunteer committees, event volunteers, and consultants. The NEM will train development interns and new development staff in Raiser’s Edge and Convio event procedures. This position serves as on site manager for NY events team.
Other duties may be assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have 2-3 years experience in not-for-profit development, events production and management. Candidates must be verbally articulate with strong written communication skills.
Individuals who apply should be very detail-oriented, able to multi-task and independently motivated. Computer skills required include Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, and Raiser’s Edge (or other fund-raising software.) Adobe Illustrator, HTML or other design skills a plus.
