Lambda Legal seeks a Law Student Intern in its New York City Headquarters to work primarily with the Staff Attorney focused on intersectional work.  The intern will be exposed to, and contribute to, active litigation related to prisoner’s rights and fair courts, among other things.

Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender (LGBT) people and those with HIV, through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.  Founded in 1973 and headquartered in New York City, Lambda Legal has regional offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas.  For more information about Lambda Legal, visit

The law student intern, under the supervision of Staff Attorney, Jael Humphrey, will assist with active litigation.  Tasks will include research, drafting and reviewing pleadings, contributing to strategic decision making, and drafting and/or editing publications for public education.

Because of the focused and challenging nature of our work, we prefer to hire law students who have some experience or background in litigation.  Law student should have an interest in criminal justice and prisoner rights issues.  A demonstrated commitment to public interest law strengthens an application.  Ideally student will be able to commit at least two full days per week.  Lambda Legal encourages applications from transgender people, people of color, and people with disabilities, including HIV.

This is a nonpaying position.  Interns are strongly encouraged to seek out and apply for grants from their school and/or funding from other sources, or course credit where available.

Position will remain open until filled.  Applicants should email their resume, cover letter, and a short writing sample to:
